KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 14A two-day painting workshop has begun at Nepal Academy of Fine Arts with the objective of mainstreaming the rights of gender and sexual minorities of Dalit communities in the country. The workshop will definitely reflect such types of vibes.

It is hoped that the workshop will spread awareness.

A space for equality should be created through art which is a strong and effective medium."Expressing happiness over organising such type of programme by NAFA, former ambassador Padam Sundas shared that the workshop would incorporate the sentiments of Dalits.

He expressed hope that the artists would make paintings as per sentiments.Similarly, NAFA Vice-Chancellor Lalkaji Lama stressed that art should speak about social discrimination in the course of addressing human nature and caste system and its impacts on society.Council member of NAFA Aruna Hingmang shared that Dalit and transgender communities were also the part of society, adding, "They deserve equal treatment." "The workshop organised to give space to the voice of such communities is expected to be effective."Presenting the bitter truth she experienced while working at different organisations, Chairperson of Samari Utthan Sewa Bimala Gayak said she was happy to get an opportunity to carry out important works together with NAFA.A total of 25 artists participated in the workshop which concluded today.A version of this article appears in the print on October 15, 2023, of The Himalayan Times .
