Colombias government confirmed that 57 soldiers were kidnapped in the rural area of El Plateado, Cauca, on June 22, 2025.
Officials say that local residents, forced by armed criminals from a FARC splinter group called Carlos Patio, carried out the kidnapping. These criminals are known for controlling drug routes and fighting the government in this region.
The soldiers were taken in two groups over the weekend.
The army says that four officers and 53 regular soldiers are among those held. The Defense Ministry made it clear that the locals acted under threats from the armed group, not by choice.
Officials describe the event as a clear case of kidnapping.Cauca is a region where illegal coca crops are common, and many armed groups fight for control.
The area is important for moving drugs from the mountains to the Pacific coast.
This makes it dangerous and hard for the government to control. The government strongly condemned the kidnapping.
They said it breaks both national and international laws, especially because civilians were forced to help.
The authorities have started legal actions against those responsible and offered rewards for information.Colombian Soldiers Kidnapped in Drug Region as Armed Groups Pressure Locals.

Officials say they want to restore order and make the area safer for everyone.
This event shows how armed groups use fear to control local people and keep their drug business running. It also highlights the ongoing struggle for the government to bring peace and safety to parts of Colombia affected by drug trafficking.
For businesses and anyone interested in Colombias future, this incident is a reminder that some regions still face big risks from crime and violence. The kidnapping of 57 soldiers by a group using local people as tools shows that Colombias fight against drugs and armed groups is far from over.
The countrys progress depends on restoring order in these troubled areas.
