KOLKATA/BHANGAR: Supporters of Indian Secular Front (ISF), the political party that has a lone representative in the assembly from Bhangar, encountered cops in the heart of the city on Saturday which left the city paralysed for over an hour.
As numerous as 19 polices were injured in the brick batting while agitators were also injured in lathi charge.
ISF MLA Naushad Siddique, who was leading the demonstration, was among 17 arrested, authorities commissioner Vineet Goyal said.The trouble was a follow up to nightlong clashes between ISF and TMC fans at Bhangar in South 24 Parganas that became a pitched battle on Saturday.
Throughout the rally, ISF advocates blocked 2 arterial roadways demanding the arrest of TMC leader Arabul Islam for the violence in Bhangar.When polices tried to distribute the protesters, ISF supporters hurled bricks at cops and assaulted with bamboo poles and iron rods.
Authorities stated the outpost at Esplanade was raided.
According to Goyal, the protesters had attacked the police officers, causing the cops action.
Earlier in the morning, Bhangar had actually witnessed a free-for-all in between ISF and TMC supporters.
Competitors threw bombs, prompting the authorities to lathi-charge the mob.
The front windshield of the ISF MLAs car was harmed when he reached the spot on Saturday.
