Argentina witnessed a remarkable surge in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in 2022, with a significant increase of 123.2 percent compared to the previous year.The total FDI inflow reached US$15.408 billion, the highest level since 2012.The Economic Commission reported this information for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC).ECLAC’s report on FDI trends in the region revealed that Argentina accounted for 6.9 percent of the total FDI received, ranking fifth among all recipient countries.Argentina’s Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) reaches highest level since 2012.

(Photo Internet reproduction)However, Brazil surpassed it, which secured the highest share with 40.7 percent, followed by Mexico with 17.3 percent, Chile with 9.3 percent, and Colombia with 7.5 percent.The ECLAC document highlighted that a majority of the FDI in Argentina was in the form of company loans (57 percent), closely followed by reinvestment of profits (37 percent).Both categories received higher capital compared to the previous year.The sectors attracting the most investment in Argentina were mining and quarrying, particularly associated with lithium and copper, and the extraction of metalliferous minerals.Additionally, significant investments were directed toward computer programming and consulting.Argentina’s surge in FDI coincided with a record-breaking year for the entire Latin American and Caribbean region.The region experienced a remarkable 55.2 percent year-on-year increase in FDI in 2022, with a total of US$224.579 billion entering the region.This marked the highest FDI value ever recorded in the region, according to ECLAC.Argentina’s robust FDI growth in 2022 reflects its attractiveness to international investors.The increased investment contributes positively to the country’s economic development and signals potential opportunities for further expansion in various sectors.
