Jagan Mohan Reddy is struggling hard to mobilise every cent possible to satisfy his government's commitments to the poor, private efforts are on to dole out excessive monetary benefits worth Rs 150 crore to errant rice millers. Some rice millers have been preventing payment of tax defaults over the last few years after they were caught manipulating treatments.

Inquiries by Deccan Chronicle revealed that the errant rice millers from the East and the West Godavari districts had actually struck a deal with a ruling celebration leader who dominates these two districts.

Fearing that the CM may come to know of his participation, he is said to be operating through a senior tax authorities.

Paradoxically, the note circulated by Peeyush Kumar, the Chief Commissioner of State Tax, to Rajat Bhargav, the Unique Chief Secretary, Income, is self-explanatory an area of rice millers dedicated scams, did not avail of the tax waiver scheme earlier by following the recommended standards and declined to pay defaults during an unique drive. The Chief Commissioner likewise indicated that the government would lose greatly if the rice millers had their method.

His department had been going soft on the rice millers rather of clamping down on them and collecting financial obligations, using the arrangements of law.

He discussed in the letter that the federal government was the proficient authority to waive off arrears from the rice millers.

In the pre-Goods and Services Tax regime, a 2 per cent tax was levied on the inter-state rice and damaged rice sales if they were transported in addition to C kind and five percent tax in the lack of C form.Several rice millers carried out sale deals without the C type.

Thanks to their lobbying, the previous Telugu Desam federal government waived the balance three percent tax for 2014 and 2015 fiscal years.

There was, however, a strict condition that those rice millers who would like to avail the waiver should have mandatorily paid the 2 percent tax and completed tax assessment for the two fiscals.

While some rice millers satisfied the conditions and availed waiver, numerous neglected and continued to devote the very same scams till 2017 till the GST originated, sources in the tax department informed Deccan Chronicle.

While the waiver for 2014 and 2015 would cost the government Rs 60 crore, another Rs 90 crore would be lost if the tax evasion for the staying years was also considered, they included.
