NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will practically take part in a program on January 23 to name 21 of the biggest unnamed islands of Andaman - & Nicobar Islands after Param Vir Chakra awardees.During the programme, the PM will likewise reveal the design of the National Memorial dedicated to Netaji that is being built on Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Dweep.Ross Islands were renamed as Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Dweep by the PM throughout his check out to the Island in 2018.
Neil Island and Havelock Island were also renamed as Shaheed Dweep and Swaraj Dweep.Giving due respect to the real-life heroes of the nation has always been accorded highest concern by the Prime Minister, said a press release.The biggest unnamed island will be called after the first Param Vir Chakra awardee, the 2nd biggest unnamed island will be called after the 2nd Param Vir Chakra recipient, and so on.
This step will be a long lasting homage to our heroes, several of whom had actually made the supreme sacrifice to protect the sovereignty and stability of the nation.These islands have been called after the 21 Param Vir Chakra recipients, viz.

Rama Raghoba Rane; Nayak Jadunath Singh; Company Havildar Major Piru Singh; Capt GS Salaria; Lieutenant Colonel (then Major) Dhan Singh Thapa; Subedar Joginder Singh; Major Shaitan Singh; CQMH.
Abdul Hamid; Lt Col Ardeshir Burzorji Tarapore; Lance Naik Albert Ekka; Major Hoshiar Singh; 2nd Lt.
Arun Khetrapal; Flying Officer Nirmaljit Singh Sekhon; Major Ramaswamy Parameswaran; Naib Subedar Bana Singh; Captain Vikram Batra; Lt Manoj Kumar Pandey; Subedar Major (then RifleMan) Sanjay Kumar; and Subedar Major Retd (Hony Captain) Grenadier Yogendra Singh Yadav.
